Commercial drivers, carriers and Ontario motorists can send us their ticket for an initial review. You do not need to organize the paperwork or know the section number.
For a commercial driver or operator, a ticket is not always just a fine. Depending on the charge and how it is resolved, there may be driver-licence, CVOR/operator, insurance, employment and regulatory consequences to consider. Those effects vary from charge to charge, which is why we look at the ticket in the context of who received it and how they use their vehicle.
VK Law Group reviews Ontario Highway Traffic Act and commercial-vehicle matters from across the province, subject to the procedural requirements and the permitted method of appearance for the particular court and matter.
Paying a ticket is generally treated as a guilty plea and results in a conviction. Depending on the charge, that conviction may carry demerit points, insurance consequences and, for commercial vehicles, possible implications for a driver's record or an operator's CVOR record. Whether paying is appropriate depends on the specific charge and your circumstances, so it is worth having the ticket reviewed before you decide.
Some convictions involving a commercial motor vehicle may be recorded against the operator's CVOR record, and the effect depends on the type of charge and how it is resolved. Not every charge affects a CVOR in the same way. We review the charge in that context.
Not necessarily. VK Law Group reviews matters from across Ontario. How a particular matter proceeds, including the permitted method of appearance, depends on the court and the procedural requirements that apply to that matter.
Sometimes, but not always. A driver's and a carrier's interests can differ — for example on responsibility for a defect or on how a charge is resolved. We must complete a conflict check, and separate representation may be required.
Only the ticket or offence notice — front and back if there is printing on both sides. A clear photo from your phone is fine. Please do not send other confidential documents at this stage; we will ask for anything else if we confirm we can assist.
